"Accelerated Math is a program that provides individualized instruction to meet diverse needs for students. The grant money received during the 2008-2009 school year from the Shelby County Education Foundation enabled us to place additional scanners, printers, and computers in our classrooms...The students’ math levels have shown 1-3 years of growth. It is a great tool to provide additional practice with TCAP skills and format. It gives immediate reinforcement and feedback to the students, teachers, and parents. We are most grateful to have been able to use these funds to enhance this challenging program." - Patricia (Patti) Russell, Principal, Tara Oaks Elementary "Graphing calculators are essential for the proper study of Algebra. Unfortunately, our classroom calculators were outdated and did not have the functions necessary for students to achieve higher levels of understanding for the topics we investigated. Through the Shelby County Schools Education Foundation, Mt. Pisgah was awarded a grant to update our graphing calculators...Through the support of this grant, our classroom learning environment was directly affected, and students were able to reach higher levels of comprehension and success." - John Gilmer, Principal, Mt. Pisgah Middle School "The Tara Oaks Art Department received a mini-grant to purchase additional Art Prints and informative art posters for our “Meet the Masters” art program. The additional prints have proved invaluable as tools for our teachers and parents to create informative and accurate art presentations for the students of Tara Oaks. The prints have biographical information about the artist making it easy for teachers and parents to research their topic of presentation. The informational art posters detail specific art techniques and methods. The prints and posters help promote higher level thinking skills in all students, while specifically reaching out to the visual learners. The entire Art Department has benefited greatly by receiving and implanting this grant." - Patricia (Patti) Russell, Principal, Tara Oaks Elementary |
